A robot automation apparatus that can perform a position calibration between a robot and a mold to be overlay welded and can automatically carry out an overlay welding operation of the mold at an accurate overlaying position according to the calibrated mold data, and a method for allowing a robot to perform overlay welding of the mold promptly and accurately by conducting the position calibration between the robot and the mold based on predetermined position data of the mold are provided. A robot automation apparatus(200) for overlay welding of a mold comprises a computer(210) for calibrating data that show predetermined shape structure of a mold according to initial jig position data, and creating a robot operating program based on the calibrated data, and a robot(220) for creating the initial jig position data, and performing a welding operation by automatically moving a welding torch(240) to concerned overlaying positions of the mold according to the robot operating program created in the computer. The robot automation apparatus further comprises a welding equipment(230) for controlling a power source such that beads are overlaid by the welding torch.
