A solid catalyst for preparing a bio-diesel and a method for preparing the bio-diesel using the same are provided to improve the activity of the catalyst and facilitate the recovery and reuse of the catalyst, by using a transition metal oxide catalyst for the solid catalyst. A solid catalyst is used to prepare a bio-diesel by reacting oil, fatty acid derived from the oil, or a mixture thereof, with alcohol. The solid catalyst comprises at least one active component selected from a transition metal oxide group consisting of zinc oxide, nickel oxide, cobalt oxide, molybdenum oxide, and titanium oxide. The solid catalyst further comprises aluminum oxide as a carrier. The solid catalyst further comprises a co-catalyst selected from a group consisting of phosphorous pentoxide and sodium oxide.
