A system and a method for selecting an optimum path considering traffic conditions, environment conditions and driving purposes in a geographical information system are provided to estimate an optimal path by selecting a path according to driving purpose, such as the shortest distance and view. A system for selecting an optimum path selection includes a danger value searching unit(16), a view value searching unit(17), and an optimal path selection unit(18). The danger value searching unit, which is controlled by a controller(11), searches the maximum danger value of respective links in a path including the shortest distance from a shortest distance extracting unit(15), calculates the minimum danger value from all links between starting point and destination, and extracts a path. The view value searching unit searches view values of all the links, and searches a path having the maximum view value of the starting point and destination. The optimal path selection unit selects an optimal path based on the path searched by the shortest distance extracting unit, the danger value searching unit, and the view value searching unit.
