An apparatus for tracking a position of a radiation source in a high level radiation field is provided to measure durably and stably the distribution and position of the radiation source in the high level radiation field such as a hot cell. An apparatus for tracking a position of a radiation source in a high level radiation field includes a radiation detection unit(104), and a radiation source position determination unit(120). A plurality of radiation detection elements is arranged on the radiation detection unit(104). The radiation source position determination unit(120) determines the position of the radiation source according to a detection signal received from the radiation detection unit(104). The radiation detection unit(104) has a metallic tube(106), a radiation detection medium(110), an electrode(108), and a preamplifier(112). The radiation detection medium(110) is inserted into the metallic tube(106) to generate a nuclear reaction with the radiation. The electrode(108) is installed inside the metallic tube(106) to acquire charge generated by the nuclear reaction. The preamplifier(112) is connected to an end of the electrode(108).
