A telephone with a life monitoring function for protecting the elderly people or a feeble person is provided to be installed in a house where an elderly person or a feeble person lives to periodically monitor their movement and make a contact to a protector or a designated person. A ring LED(4) makes a bell sound or emits light in order to indicate that a call is received. A speaker(16) recognizes key data inputted by a designated person and outputs a voice of a protector or a designated person. A microphone(15) listens to a reaction of an elderly person or a person who lives alone. A body sensor(2) senses infrared rays generated from human body to detect a movement of a person. A signal amplifier(3) amplifies a weak signal detected by the body sensor(2). A microprocessor(7) includes an A/D converter for converting the amplified signal into a digital signal. An optical filter window(1) is positioned on a front surface of the body sensor(2) installed at a front part of a main body or at one side of a receiver of a fixed line phone and allow only infrared ray wavelength generated from the human body to selectively pass therethrough in order to recognize a movement of the person.
