A method for manufacturing an electrode material for a supercapacitor having high battery charging capacitance per unit area is provided to prevent electrical property from being deteriorated and lowered by using a mesophase pitch as a raw material. A method for manufacturing an electrode material for a supercapacitor having high battery charging capacitance per unit area includes the steps of: forming mesophase pitch powder by pulverizing mesophase pitch; depositing the formed mesophase pitch powder on a calcium carbonate solution of 3 or 4 mole concentration; collecting the mesophase pitch powder by heating the deposited mesophase pitch powder to vaporize moisture; treating the collected mesophase pitch powder with heat under an inert gas at 700 or 900 degrees centigrade; washing and drying the heat-treated mesophase pitch powder; treating a surface of the mesophase pitch powder with oxidation by oxidizing the washed and dried mesophase pitch powder at 250 or 300 degrees centigrade; depositing the oxidation-treated mesophase pitch powder on a nitric acid solution of 1 or 2 normal concentration; and collecting the mesophase pitch powder after washing and drying the deposited mesophase pitch powder.
