The container has a base plate with inner and outer walls (5, 12), and a multifunctional coating (4) provided on a part of the inner wall. The coating has layer parts (15, 16) for influencing material characteristics of a non-ferrous metal. Adhesion propensity of the metal is influenced by the material characteristics. The parts have one of the doping units e.g. boron, aluminum, gallium, indium, phosphorous, arsenic and antimony. The layer parts have a combination of silicon nitride and silicon dioxide. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for manufacturing a container for smelting and crystallizing non-ferrous metals (2) an application of the container for receiving and crystallizing liquid silicon.
