The method for the operating of an exterior mirror heating of a motor vehicle, which has a rain sensor for controlling a windscreen wiping system, is such that the exterior mirror heating is also activated when the windscreen wiping system is activated. The exterior mirror heating is activated in the event of exceeding an especially adjustable limiting value of moisture which is establishable by the rain sensor. After deactivating of the windscreen wiping system, the exterior mirror heating remains activated over an especially adjustable space of time.
