Preparation of a mixture of substituted organobismuth compound comprises mixing Grignard reagent with different alkyl groups and adding the mixture to a solution of bismuthtrichloride or bismuthtribromide. Preparation of a mixture of substituted organobismuth compound of formula Bi(R)(R1)2 and/or Bi(R)(R1)(R 2) comprises mixing Grignard reagent with different alkyl groups and adding the mixture to a solution of bismuthtrichloride or bismuthtribromide.
