The device has a damping unit whose damping force is varied by controlling equipment (20). Another controlling equipment (14i) increases the damping force, during the implementation of the starting criteria which indicates the starting process of a vehicle and the braking criteria which indicates the braking process. The vehicle body movement which can be expected, is suppressed based on the starting or the braking process : Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a motor vehicle comprising a device for influencing the damping force characteristics of a chassis suspension (2) a method for influencing the absorption characteristics of a chassis suspension.
