The method involves swiveling headlights in a horizontal level around angles of 0-15 degrees. A left headlight (2L) and right headlight (2R) are outwardly swiveled, where the swiveling is controlled depending on the speed of a vehicle (1) based on driving conditions during city traffic. The angle of swiveling for the left headlight is adjusted larger than that for the right headlight or the angle of swiveling for the right headlight is adjusted larger than that for the left headlight. Data from a navigation system is recognized in a control unit (4) to recognize a danger situation. An independent claim is also included for a device for adjusting light dispersion of headlights of a vehicle.
