The method involves producing different light characteristics based on light distributions (LVli, LVre) of headlights (2re, 2li). Beam width of the light distributions of the headlights is automatically reduced depending on a steering control variable (X), where the headlights are turned to a curved-inner side. A low beam distribution is adjusted as light distributions while reaching or exceeding a steering control variable limit value. An illuminating characteristic and/or a traverse angle (alphali or alphare) of the light distribution are adjusted.
