The system has a pulsed light source (2) e.g. LED, for illuminating a surrounding area of a motor vehicle (1). A photocopy of the surrounding area is taken with a blue print of the light source. Another photocopy of the surrounding area is taken with a light pulse of the light source. A processing device (4) provides a difference between the photocopies. The provided difference is represented on a projector (5) of a head-up display and a windscreen (6). An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying a surrounding area during bad visibility conditions.
