The apparatus for execution of pico-litre immunoassays takes place in quantities of few pico-litres and aqueous reaction areas around hydrophilic micro-particles (micro- or nano-beads), to which primary anti-body is bound. Many of the hydrophilic micro-particles (beads) with their encapsulating aqueous reaction areas are present as water-in-oil emulsion. An analyte binds itself to the primary anti-body. When the analyte has bound itself, the secondary anti-body in turn binds itself to the analyte bound to the primary antibody. The apparatus for execution of pico-litre immunoassays takes place in quantities of few pico-litres and aqueous reaction areas around hydrophilic micro-particles (micro- or nano-beads), to which primary anti-body is bound. Many of the hydrophilic micro-particles (beads) with their encapsulating aqueous reaction areas are present as water-in-oil emulsion. An analyte binds itself to the primary anti-body. When the analyte has bound itself, the secondary anti-body in turn binds itself to the analyte bound to the primary antibody. The binding of the secondary anti-body leads to a measuring signal (e.g. by fluorescence resonance energy transfer, dye and fluorescence polarization).
