The device has a main heater (7) for heating air flow (L) guided into a passenger compartment (1), and an auxiliary heater (9) for aiding the heating of the air flow. The auxiliary heater is user-sided activatable for increasing the heating of the air flow. The activation of the auxiliary heater by a user takes place independent of a vehicle external temperature. A supplying device adjusts a passenger compartment area-temperature such that operation of the auxiliary heater is activated. An independent claim is also included for a method for heating a passenger compartment of a vehicle.
