Electrically active element (1) comprises a front wall (2) and a rear wall (6) joined together via an adhesive/sealant material (10) which has a sealing layer (12) on its surface. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Electrochromic element formed as the above electrically active element; and (2) Vehicle mirror with the above electrically active element. Preferred Features: The material of the sealing layer has reduced permeability towards water, water vapor and other gases compared with the material of the adhesive/sealant material.
