Production of a lavatory seat (2) or lavatory cover (4) involves injecting plastics material into a mold cavity using injection molding unit(s) and displacing part of the plastics material, while still molten, with a fluid, to form at least one cavity (14) in the seat or cover. An independent claim is included for the lavatory seat (2) or cover (4) obtained by the process, having at least one cavity (14), introduced into the basic structure (6, 8) of the seat or cover with a fluid.
