The method involves designing multiple drive devices together with a spare for an interrupted operation. An operative drive device is operated for a limited time period and/or over a limited distance that puts aside a railway vehicle and/or for a limited speed of the railway vehicle in overload if one or multiple drive devices fail and/or if the railway vehicle is driven up in the steep mountain. The operative drive device is fed with a current with increased amperage for operating in the overload, where the current with increased amperage is generated in a power converter.
