The method involves selecting an initial value for an actual search to be implemented, and starting the actual search with one of the blocks of a memory device (100), where a number of the block can be calculated from the initial value in a precise manner. The initial value for the actual search is determined from a content of the memory device depending on a search preceding the actual search. The blocks of the memory device are searched according to an order, consecutively. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for writing a content in a free block of a memory device (2) a device for selecting a free block in a memory device (3) a computer program with a computer program code unit for executing steps of a free block selecting method (4) a computer program product with program code unit stored at a computer readable data carrier.
