The invention relates to a control device for motor vehicles for learning to drive independently of a predetermined time-optimal ideal line of a completed route, preferably a race track. In an adjustable first stage of the control device, at least the steering actuators are automatically actuated when the racetrack is being driven in such a way that the motor vehicle moves autonomously along the ideal line of the completed route with regard to lateral guidance. In an adjustable second stage, the driver controls the actuators himself and only receives information. In an adjustable third stage, the driver no longer receives any information, but is only evaluated after driving on the racetrack.
