The method involves integrating electronic components of a common interface conditional access module (CICAM) into a motherboard (1) of a digital radio receiver in a form of an independent conditional access module (CAM) component (5). The CAM component is attached to a smart card reader (27), and is communicated with the surrounding of the digital radio receiver via multiple transport-stream data buses and via control lines. Software of a multi-decoding system within the CAM component is stored in a non-volatile memory to update software of the digital radio receiver. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for updating software of a digital radio receiver.
