Method for determining a relative change of the friction coefficient between a tire of a vehicle and a road surface comprises calculating a theoretical friction coefficient and determining a theoretical speed change of the vehicle based on the measured friction coefficient, determining the actual speed change of the vehicle using sensors, determining a relative speed change difference between the theoretical speed change and the actual speed change of the vehicle and determining a relative change difference using a selected function to the relative speed change difference. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Program code for an electronic control unit suitable for data processing; (2) Memory medium with a program code; (3) Electronic control unit; and (4) Vehicle with the above electronic unit. Preferred Features: The vehicle can be slowed down by automatic operation of the brake of the vehicle using an electronic control unit.
