The method involves determining a path (s) laid back from a piston (3) to a housing (2) for actuating a clutch (4) based on volume flow of hydraulic fluid in dependent of a preset parameter, where the preset parameter includes a number of rotations of a motor of a motor vehicle (5), a temperature of the hydraulic fluid and/or an existing pressure of the hydraulic fluid. The pressure of the hydraulic fluid is determined, which serves for producing the volume flow necessary for laying back of the determined path. An independent claim is also included for a device for filling a housing of a hydraulic actuatable clutch of a motor vehicle with hydraulic fluid.
