The method involves moving actuator (3) to predetermined maximum actuator position, and detecting pressure in cylinder (4) at the maximum actuator position. The measured pressure is compared with preset value. Maximum pressure gradient is determined, if pressure is less than preset value. A determination whether two position-pressure characteristics are present is performed, when determined maximum pressure gradient is greater than preset value. The correct filling of actuating system is checked, if determined two position-pressure characteristics are within tolerance range. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) hydraulic actuating system; and (2) method for mistake detection in hydraulic clutch actuating system.
