The adjustment mechanism for a motor vehicle seat, with an adjustment drive to one side of the seat, has a clamp structure to lock it in the event of an impact collision. The clamp is formed by a plate (21) with an opening to give an axial and radial clamping action on the pinion or bearing (12) at the projecting end of the drive shaft (9). One end is bolted to the seat structure (1) at the pinion end, with the opposite end angled to the seat to pass at least partially into the opening (30) at its edge to be secured to the seat by hooks and/or bolts.
