The device has a respiratory gas conveying device e.g. ventilator (3) for conveying the respiratory gas with an inspiration pressure via respiratory lines (5, 7) and face mask (9) into lungs (11, 13) of a patient (15). A control device is provided for controlling the inspiration pressure based on a pulmonary inner pressure and a pulmonary target pressure. The control device lowers the inspiration pressure depending on a difference between the pulmonary inner and target pressure. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a device for supplying a respiratory gas to a patient.
