The method involves displaying process parameters, which are represented by picture symbols (1-6), in a three dimensional region that is formed by two x-y planes shifted parallel along a z-axis. The position of the symbols of the parameters in the x-y planes is determined by the deviation of the values of the parameters from average and reference values of the parameters. The position of the symbols of the parameters in the z-axis is a function of the deviation of the values of the parameters in the z-axis from average and reference values of the parameters in the z-axis.
