The device (1) has production units (3, 4) that are designed so that the production units produce personalized documents with different International standards organization (ISO)standard-safety formats, where the format of the device (4) is lower than the format of the device (3). Each production unit has production stations (5, 6), where each station is attached to both the production units. The station is designed in such a manner that the station is replaced and adjusted between operating positions that are assigned to respective production units. Further stations are provided, station (8) to process, create or recognise biometric signals, e.g. fingerprint or iris image and station (9) for optical checking and/or identification of visual information of the document and station (10) for contactless personalising of documents. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a personalized document e.g. passport.
