In the procedure to implant a joint prosthesis, for a total or partial knee or elbow or ankle joint replacement, a surgical navigation system is used to localize the bones. The bio-mechanical and soft tissue mantle characteristics are evaluated at the joint. The characteristics are shown as an interactive display, together with the selected implant, for the surgeon to prepare the joint and insert the implant.
