An uncut double pile fabric consists of an upper layer (2) and a lower layer (3) connected by pile yarns (6) inserted in the warp direction, e.g. in vertical V- or W- formation, using velvet weaving techniques. Heat-resistant spun yarns are used to give a gap of preferably 5 to 15 mm, with 20 to 30 pile yarns per cm2. The fibers used are resistant to temperatures up 900 [deg]C for brief periods.
