The cover (3) has a steering head bearing play adjusted independently of the cover. A clamping and/or retaining device (4) holds the cover in an axial position. The cover is utilized for sealing steering head bearing bands. The cover is not fixedly connected with a sleeve (2) for adjusting the steering head bearing play. The clamping and/or retaining device is provided either at a control pipe side or a shaft pipe side. The cover is moved downwards on a control pipe (6) and is fixed by the clamping and/or retaining device after adjusting the play. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a clamping and/or a retaining device for a cover (2) a sleeve for adjusting a steering head bearing play and a cover.
