The mechanism has a worm gear, and a roller bearing (7) e.g. ball bearing, with a bearing ring held in a holder e.g. swivel ring, which is adjusted in a radial direction. The bearing ring is secured against axial forces by a plastically deformed portion of the holder. A ring is provided between the bearing ring and the plastically deformed portion, and is harder than the plastically deformed portion. The ring has an outer diameter as the bearing ring and a sharp-edge flange turned away from the bearing ring.
