The apparatus has a positioning arrangement for two-dimensional movement of a photoelectric measuring device over a measurement template positioned on a supporting surface. The arrangement has a robot arm (20) mounted on a stationary base for rotation by a motor about an axis of rotation perpendicular to the surface. Another robot arm (30) mounted at a free end of the arm (20) rotates in another axis of rotation and carries the device. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining coordinate values of a selected position on a measurement template.
