The invention concerns a system for monitoring consumers comprising: transponders (TRi) distributed in the floor (SO) of the site and having each an identification code, activating and interrogating devices (DEIj) placed on the trolleys (CHj) and comprising each: transmitter/receiver means collecting identification codes through proximity communication, a clock, a storage unit, means for writing the codes in the storage unit combined with time data, a write-activating device for activating the writing means before the trolley starts moving on the site, a transfer device for transferring to a processing unit data stored in the storage unit of said device located proximate thereto, and a write-deactivating device for deactivating the writing means.
