The present invention relates to a gimped yarn for constituting at least a portion of an article of contention.Conformement to the invention, the gimped thread (10) is formed of an elastic central core (11) of translucent material, and at least one cover wire (12), also made of translucent material, which is wrapped around the central core (11). The invention also relates to an article of contention of which at least the essential is constituted by the wrapped thread (10) supra. In particular, when the compression article comprises a knitted ground yarn and a weft yarn, it is advantageous for the weft yarn to be constituted by the above-mentioned threaded yarn (10), the bottom thread being constituted either by a traditional thread, also by the thread guiped (10) supra.
