TRADE PRESS ARTICLES VS. REFEREED PROCEEDINGS ARTICLES: QUANTIFYING THE LAG TIME FOR PUBLICATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ARTICLES BETWEEN THE TWO VENUES

摘要

Developments in the field of Information Technology (IT) continue to provide new topics of interest to both the scholar and the practitioner. Using a selection of "hot" IT topics drawn from developments in Web 2.0 and Web 3.0, we have attempted to quantify the amount of time which elapses between the publication of articles about a topic in the trade press and the appearance of articles about the same topic in peer-reviewed conference proceedings. We accomplish this by comparing time series data using cross correlation techniques.
