The device has an unlocking unit for rotatably releasing a support (18) around a cam axis (7) of a cam (4). A position maintenance unit (23) maintains a valve (2) e.g. inlet or exhaust valve, in closed position during activation of the unlocking unit. A return unit (24) returns the support in angular adjusting position. The position maintenance unit comprises an elastic unit mounted between a tappet (13) and a cylinder head (3) of an internal combustion engine. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling actuating of a valve of an internal combustion engine.
