The engine has an output shaft (11) transmitting motorized-power. Four cylinders (2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4) are respectively equipped with valves (5-1, 5-2, 5-3, 5-4) and pistons (3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4) that are connected to the output shaft. Another shaft (7) has four cams to actuate the valves. An actuator (16) generates displacement of the latter shaft to position the cams in positions of actuation of the valves. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an internal combustion engine.
