The device (1) has a beam (3) connected to a chassis of a motor vehicle and pivoted on the chassis around a longitudinal axis of the beam between two positions. The beam presents low stiffness along a direction parallel to another longitudinal axis (Xv) of the vehicle when in one position and high stiffness when in another position. Two shock absorbers (5) are intercalated between end of girder (4) of the chassis and the beam.
