The method involves selecting values (V1-V8) of displacement speed of a motor vehicle inside a speed matrix representing the possible values of the displacement speed based on the variations of parameters e.g. road work, that influence the speed, for a section of a road network between an initial starting point (A) and a destination point (B). A transit time is calculated by utilizing the selected values of the displacement speed. An independent claim is also included for a traffic information providing device comprising a memory.
