The method involves calculating a value of temperature in each of electrically conductive tracks (4) of a flat flexible cable (2) based on values of characteristic quantities of the cable, where the quantities include thermal capacity of each track, intensity of current passing through the track and thermal conductance of an electrically insulating covering (6) between the tracks. The flat flexible cable is selected based on the calculated temperature value. The cable is placed in an electric network of a motor vehicle to supply energy to parts of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising an electrical network.
