PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonyl reductase that efficiently catalyzes reduction reactions of various carbonyl compounds and produces corresponding alcohols.;SOLUTION: The two kinds of carbonyl reductases are derived from petals of Rosa 'Hoh-Jun' and have specific amino acid sequences and their homologs. The gene encodes the amino acid sequence. The carbonyl reductase produced by Escherichia coli transformed with a plasmid containing the gene catalyzes reduction reactions using various carbonyl compounds as substrates in the presence of NADH.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
