PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) which is useful for a constituent material of a solid polymer fuel cell, a direct liquid fuel cell and a direct methanol fuel cell, and has a high methanol-blocking property and an excellent property of connectivity with an electrode. PSOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a membrane electrode assembly is characterized in that an electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell is manufactured from a material of a polymer film, which has features of including a polymer compound (A) having a melting point of 220C or higher and a polymer compound (B) having a melting point of no higher than 220C as essential constituents, and having a phase predominantly including the polymer compound (A) and a phase predominantly including the polymer compound (B) in observation of a cross-sectional photograph of the film using an electron microscope, with the phase predominantly including the polymer compound (B) being continued both in a thickness direction and in a width direction, and the electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell is subjected to thermal pressing along with an electrode at no higher than such a temperature that a coefficient of elasticity of the polymer compound (B) becomes 1.010SP6/SPPa.
