PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily measuring the antitumor effect of lactic acid bacterium, a method for screening a lactic acid bacterium having an antitumor effect by using the method, a method for easily measuring an anti-inflammatory cytokine effect of lactic acid bacterium and a method for screening a lactic acid bacterium having an inflammatory cytokine inhibitory effect by using the method.;SOLUTION: The method for measuring a cancer cell growth inhibitory action of lactic acid bacterium comprises culturing U937 cells (monocytic blastoid derived from histiocytic lymphoma patient) and assaying the presence of proliferation of the U937 cells and/or the degree of proliferation. The method for screening a lactic acid bacterium having a cancer cell growth inhibitory action comprises using the method. The method for measuring the inflammatory cytokine inhibitory action of lactic acid bacterium comprises culturing U937 cells in the presence of the lactic acid bacterium and inflammatory cytokine and assaying the presence of proliferation of the 937 cells and/or the degree of proliferation.
