PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive control method for a stepping motor which can prevent such trouble that the usual operation of the device using a stepping motor is interrupted by the step out of the stepping motor and it comes to nothing, and to provide its device, a rotary drive device, and an image forming apparatus.;SOLUTION: Prior to the usual operation of the image forming apparatus using a stepping motor 110, the stepping motor 110 is driven under severer drive conditions where the step out of the stepping motor 110 is easier to occur than the drive condition in usual operation so as to detect the existence of the step out of the stepping motor. For example, it is driven under drive conditions of driving it at higher starting pulse velocity than the starting pulse velocity of the stepping motor in the above usual operation so as to detect the existence of the step out.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
