PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a titanium based hydrogen storage alloy with which burning-synthesizing at high temperature is made possible, and further, the cost of a titanium based hydrogen storage alloy can be reduced, and to provide production equipment for a titanium based hydrogen storage alloy.;SOLUTION: A sample S composed of raw material powder essentially composed of titanium is mounted on a horizontal crucible 11 so as to be stored in a pressure vessel 21, and the inside of the pressure vessel 21 is made a gaseous hydrogen atmosphere of 0.9 MPa. The sample S is uniformly heated using a heater (uniform heating means) 14 or a part of the sample S is locally heated using an ignition line (local heating means) 12, thus the titanium based hydrogen storage alloy is burnt and synthesized. Since the pressure in the gaseous hydrogen atmosphere is controlled to 0.9 MPa, durability of the pressure vessel 21 is reduced, thus the production device is made inexpensive, and the cost of the titanium based hydrogen storage alloy can be reduced. Further, since the production device can be composed of an internal heating system, the burning-synthesizing of the titanium based hydrogen storage alloy can be performed at temperature higher than the conventional case.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
