PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct synthetic method for cyclic carbonate in which a compound bearing a neighboring hydroxyl group, for example, glycol or glycerol, is allowed to react with carbon dioxide to obtain cyclic carbonate in high yield.;SOLUTION: In the presence of a supported metal catalyst showing the activity to following two reactions, glycol or glycerol is allowed to directly react with carbon dioxide, thereby the step for formation of cyclic carbonate in which the structure including the carbonate skeleton is connected with C-C bond to form cyclic ring, and the step for reaction between the reactant and the water that is formed in the formation of the carbonate by the hydration or hydrolysis can exist together.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
