PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavefront curvature modulating device that separates luminous flux emitted by a light source into a plurality of beams having different wavefront curvatures, and an image display device equipped with the wavefront curvature modulating device. PSOLUTION: In a luminous flux generating means 10 of the wavefront curvature modulating device 1, the luminous flux emitted by the light source 11 is made incident on a luminous flux A generation part 2. The luminous flux A generation part 2 separates the luminous flux; and one is made incident on a luminous flux B generation part 3 and the other is modulated into luminous flux A with a wavefront curvature (a), which is projected by the luminous flux generating means 10. Similarly, a luminous flux B generation part 3, a luminous flux C generation part 4, and a luminous flux D generation part 5 emit pieces B to D of luminous flux having mutually different wavefront curvatures (b) to (d). In a luminous flux selecting means 20, the pieces A to D of luminous flux which have their light intensities modulated by an intensity modulator or are blocked are put together by a composing mirror, etc., into one piece of luminous flux, which is projected from the luminous flux selecting means 20.
