PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake air quantity detector for an internal combustion engine capable of precisely compensating delay in response of a thermal air flow sensor.;SOLUTION: This intake air quantity detector for the internal combustion engine 1 detects the quantity of intake air of the internal combustion engine 1 by using the thermal air flow sensor 13, and is provided with a response delay compensating means 18 for compensating the delay in response of the air flow sensor 13 by using a primary delay element related to the quantity of heat radiated in the air flow sensor 13. The response delay compensating means 18 divides the air flow sensor 13 into a plurality of portions, considers the primary delay element related to the quantity of radiated heat in each divided portion, and compensates the delay in the response of the air flow sensor 13 on the whole by integrating the primary delay element of each of the divided portions.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
