PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silatrane derivative that has one or two alkoxysilyl groups in one molecule and is useful as a saline-coupling agent or an adhesive promoter. ;SOLUTION: This silatrane derivative is represented by formula I [each R¹ is independently H, a 1-10C alkyl; R² is H, a 1-10C alkyl, an alkoxysilyl group-containing organic group of R⁴-Si(OR⁵)_xR⁶_(3-x) (R⁴ is a divalent organic group; R⁵ is a 1-10C alkyl; R⁶ is a monovalent (substituted) hydrocarbon group; x is 1, 2, 3), at least one of R² is this alkoxysilyl group-bearing organic group; R³ is a monovalent (substituted) hydrocarbon group, a 1-10C alkoxy], typically the compound of formula II. The reaction of the formula: NH_y(CR¹₂CR¹₂OH)_(3-y) (y is 1, 2) with a trialkoxysilane bearing an epoxy group of formula III (R⁷ is a 1-10C alkyl) affords the subject derivative.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
